Each EMDR & IFS Healing Intensive is carefully structured and individualized. While no two intensives look exactly the same, all are grounded in safety, nervous-system regulation, and respect for your pace.
This work is not about pushing through or reliving trauma.
It is about creating the conditions for healing.
1. Grounding & Nervous System Regulation
We begin each session by helping your body and nervous system settle.
This may include:
Grounding exercises
Breathwork or gentle mindfulness
Orientation to the present moment
Establishing a sense of safety and choice
This step helps ensure your system is regulated enough to engage in deeper work without overwhelm.
2. Somatic Awareness & Body-Based Support
Trauma is stored not only in memory, but also in the body.
During your intensive, we pay attention to:
Somatic work may include:
Your body’s signals guide the pace of the work.
3. Parts Work (IFS-Informed)
Using Internal Family Systems (IFS), we work with the different “parts” of you that developed to protect, cope, or survive.
This may include:
Identifying protective parts (such as parts that avoid, control, or numb)
Building internal safety and trust
Gaining permission before approaching painful material
Strengthening your internal sense of calm, curiosity, and compassion (Self-energy)
No part is forced to change or disappear.
All parts are approached with respect.
4. EMDR Preparation & Resourcing
Before any trauma reprocessing begins, we ensure you have:
Adequate internal and external resources
Tools to regulate emotions
Clear signals for pausing or stopping
A shared plan for pacing
Preparation is an essential part of EMDR — not something we rush through.
5. EMDR Reprocessing (When Clinically Appropriate)
When you and your nervous system are ready, EMDR may be used to help process a specific memory, belief, or experience.
EMDR reprocessing involves:
Bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sounds)
Staying present while your brain processes the memory
Allowing emotional intensity to shift naturally over time
You remain fully aware, in control, and able to pause at any point.
Not all intensives include EMDR reprocessing — and that’s okay. Healing can still happen through preparation, parts work, and somatic integration.
6. Integration & Closing
Each session ends with time for:
Grounding and stabilization
Reflecting on what shifted
Supporting your nervous system before transitioning out of session
Discussing integration practices between sessions (as needed)
Integration helps your system absorb the work safely and sustainably.
A Note on Pace & Choice
Throughout your intensive:
You are never required to share details you’re not ready for
You can ask to slow down or pause at any time
Your body and nervous system guide the process
Healing is prioritized over speed
This work is collaborative, intentional, and deeply respectful of your lived experience.
