LGBTQIA+ Support: Standing Together in Difficult Times

The world feels increasingly hostile for many in the LGBTQIA+ community, especially for our trans siblings who are constantly being targeted and erased. As a bisexual cis-woman and a mother of queer children, I feel this deeply—not just as a therapist, but as someone who loves and supports queer and trans people in every aspect of my life. It’s scary. I fear for the lives of my clients, my children, and my friends.

But fear cannot silence us.

Now, more than ever, we need to show up for one another. Trans people exist. They always have, and they always will. No law, no policy, no wave of misinformation can erase their reality. But visibility alone is not enough—we must actively protect and support one another.

What Can We Do?

1. Use Our VoicesSilence is not an option. Speak up in conversations, challenge misinformation, and call out harmful rhetoric. Whether it’s at work, in your family, or in your community, being vocal about your support makes a difference.

2. Advocate for ChangeSupport organizations fighting for LGBTQIA+ rights. Contact lawmakers, attend rallies, and vote for policies that protect queer and trans people. If you have the privilege of safety, use it to amplify the voices of those most at risk.

3. Educate Ourselves and OthersMisinformation fuels discrimination. Learn about the issues impacting the LGBTQIA+ community—especially the trans community—and share accurate, affirming information. Have those hard conversations with family members, co-workers, and friends.

4. Provide Meaningful SupportCheck in on your LGBTQIA+ friends, clients, and loved ones. Donate to mutual aid funds, offer safe spaces, and ensure that the places you inhabit are welcoming and affirming. Mental health resources, crisis lines, and community spaces are more important than ever.

This is a difficult time, but we are not powerless. Together, we can push back against hate, protect our most vulnerable, and remind the world that queer and trans people are here to stay.

You are not alone. We are in this together. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
